Stained-Glass Panel

Object Name: Saint
Accession Number: 1945.22
Artist: Unknown
Date: 14th Century
Size: 203.2H x 60.96W x 3.81D cm
Material: Glass, lead, wood

This treatment focused on cleaning, stabilizing, and replacing the display cases for three stained-glass windows. Saint was the window primarily assigned to me but my co-intern, Nicole Chausse, and I worked on all three windows.

As mentioned in the full conservation report, I completed the initial surface cleaning, removing and repairing chosen glass pieces, inpainting some paint losses, and returning the glass pieces to their proper place in the window. Emily Cummins completed the final surface cleaning and assisted with the re-housing of this object in its new case. After treatment photography was completed by Emily as well.

Stone Cloister

Object Name: Cloister Arcades
Accession Number: 1929.203-208
Artist: Unknown
Date: 1150-1400
Material: Limestone, Marble

This treatment focused on gel poultice cleaning three limestone and marble arcades with the assistance of Toledo community participants.

The Cloister Gallery at TMA is a beloved community space with many museum visitors mentioning how they were married in the space, attended events in the gallery, or visited with school when they were younger. The gallery was undergoing a large renovation to expand and diversify the collection displayed in the space. The conservation team felt it was an ideal time to invite the public to help conserve these stone arcades that hadn’t been conserved since their initial installation in the gallery.
